Three ways to connect a number

New Twilio number: we text from a new local number. Quickest; the owner forwards unanswered calls to it.

Hosted SMS (keep your number): we file a Twilio Hosted Number Order for the business line. The owner proves ownership (Twilio calls the line with a code, or a phone bill), e-signs a Letter of Authorization, then the carrier switches SMS over (typically days to a few weeks). Calls never move. Until it completes we still alert the owner about missed calls but can't text back.

Quo: we text through the business's existing Quo number. After saving, paste the webhook URL from Settings into Quo and copy back the signing key.

Wire up Twilio (new or hosted numbers)

In the Twilio console, on the number's configuration page:

Voice, "A call comes in": Webhook, POST https://yourdeskguru.com/api/twilio/voice
Messaging, "A message comes in": Webhook, POST https://yourdeskguru.com/api/twilio/sms

Hosted lines: the SMS URL is set on the order for you; point the catcher number's voice webhook at https://yourdeskguru.com/api/twilio/voice.

Forward mode: on the owner's cell/landline, turn on "forward when unanswered" to the Twilio number, or for hosted lines the catcher number (Verizon: *71 + number; AT&T/T-Mobile: **61*number#; or the carrier app).

Before texting real customers in the US, this client needs an approved A2P 10DLC brand + campaign (Twilio Trust Hub for new and hosted numbers; Quo handles registration inside Quo). Unregistered texts get blocked by carriers.
